Basketballghana.com can confirm the Dansoman SSNIT Flats Basketball Court has undergone a massive facelift that the playing surface, rims and immediate surrounding areas to the facility improved.
The court was officially commissioned for use by the public over this past weekend by Ablekuma West Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Ursula Owusi-Ekuful.
The MP who doubles as Ghana’s Minister of Communications, funded the construction of the facility according to reports reaching Ghana’s leading Basketball portal.
According to the veteran Politician, the court is part of a project to make Dansoman the “headquarters of basketball” in the West African nation. A seating area for fans is to be constructed in the next phase of the project.
Dansoman is a thriving basketball hub in Ghana’s capital, Accra with a boatload of talented players and clubs like DC Dynamics. However, an inadequate basketball facility in the suburb and the country as a whole is a major challenge that has slowed the pace of basketball development.
Joe Nettey, a Dansoman based Player stated the new court marks a “turning point in Dansoman basketball”.
