Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has declared her intention to make Dansoman-a suburb in the constituency-the headquarters of basketball in Ghana.
She made this statement on Saturday as she commissioned a new basketball court at the popular Dansoman SSNIT Flats in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The Parliamentarian who is seeking another term in office on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) doubles as the Minister of Communications.
The official unveiling of the court was part of a ceremony that had an exhibition game involving several players within the vicinity played.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Member of Parliament stated, “Most people will fight for Astro turfs and standard pitches and all that because football is the major sport in this country but we can develop basketball to also be one of the big sports in this country…we are moving systematically to ensure that Dansoman becomes the headquarters of basketball in Ghana.”
Dansoman is home to an extensive list of basketball players and teams including DC Dynamics.
