Recently crowned Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Personality of the Year Award winner Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has stated his win has taken 17 years of waiting.
The Wheelchair Basketball Player and racer made this statement in the aftermath of bagging the prestigious event’s most high profile award beating Boxer Richard Commey and Ghana’s 4×100 Relay Team to the Award.
The award capped a wonderful season for Nkegbe following wins in the Desert Challenge in the USA and OCC Marathon in South Africa.
His wins earned him a spot at next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan and a new national record of Olympic appearances; four appearances.
“This award is a good motivation for me because it has taken 17 years old of waiting for it. But the right time is when you have the award in your hands. It is also a motivation” he said.
Nkegbe won the Para athlete of the Year Award late in September; his Personality of the Year Award was his second win in this year’s Awards.
