Basketballghana.com can confirm Wheelchair Basketball Player and versatile para athlete Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has won the Sports Personality of the Year Award at the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards.
The award was conferred on him this past weekend at the Swiss Suit Alissa Hotel in Ghana’s capital, Accra to crown a night of glamour that honoured outstanding Ghanaian sports athletes.
Present at the ceremony was Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah and National Sports Association and Supreme Court Judge Justice Tanko Amadu.
Nkegbe beat out competition from Boxer Richard Commey and the West African nation’s 4×100 Relay Team to win the prestigious prize.
This is the second award Nkegbe won at this year’s event following his win in the Para Athlete category late in September thanks to a very successful year.
Botsyo won gold at the OCC event in South Africa and gold at the Desert Challenge in the United States of America en route to qualify to next year’s Olympics in Japan. This is Nkegbe’s fourth qualification to the multi sport event.
