Two Ghanaian-Italians faced off as Virtus Bologna played against Vanoli Cremona in Week 3 of the Italian Serie A 2020-2021 season.
David Cournooh and Awudu Abass featured in the big matchup that had Abass’ Bologna lose 92-95 at home to Cournooh’s Cremona on Saturday.
The win is Cremona’s first of the season after recording two losses in two games; the loss is Bologna’s first of the season in three games.
Cournooh recorded seven points, six assists and five rebounds as a starting Guard in 26 minutes while Abass registered nine points, an assist and two rebounds in 22 minutes as the starting Small Forward.
Veteran Guard Cournooh produced an impressive performance after recovering from cramps that forced him to leave Cremona’s game against Reyer Venezia.
Both players are born to Ghanaian parents in Italy and have gone on to represent the European nation at the senior level with Cournooh representing Italy at the 2006 Mediterranean Games.
Abass competed for Italy at the 2019 Basketball World Cup.
