Reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate the winner of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) will pocket $150,000 in the first year of the continental competition.
The competition is set to run between December 5 and December 18 in Rwanda after the original start date-March 13-was scrapped due to the rise of the corona virus.
The pandemic that followed the rapid spread of the virus forced authorities to postpone the maiden edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa event multiple times.
According to Angolan Press, the winning team gets to win over $100,000 in cash prize with the second placed team primed to take $75,000, the third team takes $55,000 and the fourth placed team takes home $25,000.
12 teams have qualified to compete in this year’s edition of the BAL which has been created to promote basketball further in Africa.
Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria, AS Douanes from Senegal, AS Sale from Morocco, Patriots from Rwanda are among qualified teams. Ghana’s Braves of Customs missed out on a spot in the tournament after getting eliminated from the qualifiers.
