Basketballghana.com can confirm popular Wheelchair Basketball Player Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has been named Para Athlete of the Year at the 45th MTN SWAG Awards.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards is a distinct annual award scheme that honours outstanding Ghanaian athletes in multiple sports disciplines.

Nkegbe won the top prize after excelling in the year under review which was underlined by securing qualification to his fourth Olympic Games.

He set a record number of qualification to the world games for any Ghanaian athlete by making the qualification time in the wheelchair sprint event.

Nkegbe is set to compete at the Tokyo Paralympic Games next year after the competition was moved from September this year due to the corona virus pandemic.

He was tied on three Olympic appearances with legendary Ghanaian footballer Reverend Osei Kofi before moving to four.

Nkegbe was grateful for the award as he continues to prepare to end his Olympic medal drought; he is also readying to launch his line of sportswear.
