Ghanaian Basketball Player Joel Mensah has been in the celebration books of James Madison University Men’s Basketball Team in recent days.

The Center recently celebrated his 22nd birthday and his international background was equally celebrated by the Dukes; he is one of two players of such ilk with Rashawn Fredericks of the Virgin Islands who were celebrated.

Born and raised in Ghana before moving to the United States of America and starring at JSerra High School, Mensah is entering his third year in College basketball but his first with James Madison.

He transferred from San Diego State University after spending two seasons with the Aztecs this offseason; limited playing time was a major reason for his move.

He averaged 6.5 minutes in his final year at San Diego where he produced 1.9 points and 0.6 rebounds in 21 games as San Diego won 28 games last season.

As the tallest player on the James Madison roster at 6 foot 10 inches, Mensah is expected to play extensive minutes and improve his production.
