Basketballghana.com can confirm South Sudan’s Senior Men’s National Basketball Team will compete in the upcoming prequalifying games for the 2021 FIBA African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket).

FIBA has granted the Federation a wild card spot in the qualification process where the team stands a big chance to move closer to a first ever AfroBasket appearance since gaining independence in 2011.

South Sudan is scheduled to play Cape Verde, Zimbabwe and Chad in prequalification games from October to October 25.

The qualification games are due to take place in Yaounde, Cameroon and the team with the most points advances to the next phase.

The next phase involves battling against Morocco, Egypt and Uganda in Group E; two more qualification rounds are to be played to determine the final list of countries to compete in next year’s tournament.

Rwanda’s Kigali Arena is slated to host the continental competition.

Potential members of the team were invited to training camp earlier this month to commence preparation for the games.
