Wheelchair Basketball Player and soon to be four time Olympian Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe has cried foul over what he believes is a big slight towards elite parathletes in connection to payment from the COVID 19 Relief Fund.
The Fund was created via joint venture between Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) and Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to relieve financial pressure on athletes affected by the windfall from the corona virus pandemic.
Athletes who successfully passed the vetting process are eligible to be paid 500 Ghana Cedis each month for the next six months but from reports reaching Basketballghana.com, a handful of elite parathletes were ignored.
Aside Nkegbe, Wheelchair Tennis player Maclean Atsu Dzidzibienyo was also left off the list of beneficiaries. Nkegbe has qualified to compete in the Wheelchair race event at next year’s Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Able bodied Basketball players who were vetted are yet to receive their share of the kitty per reports gathered by Ghana’s leading hoops portal.
