Basketballghana.com gathers the South Sudan Senior Men’s National Basketball Team has commenced training ahead of the upcoming qualification games.
The training session was organized as the team continues to prepare for the 2021 African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) pre qualifiers slated for October.
Players trained at the Dr. Biar Sports Complex in the nation’s capital, Juba with players invited from leagues in Uganda and Kenya.
Training begun on Sunday, September 6 with a handful of players present for the session as the country attempts to compete in its first major international competition.
This is the latest development from South Sudan as the country continues to build up its profile in the sport with new South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng leading the charge.
The country which gained independence in 2011 competed in qualification games earlier this year with South Sudan winning four of five games.
The 2021 AfroBasket is set to be hosted in Rwanda’s Kigali Arena with Tunisia as defending champions.
