Basketballghana.com gathers Rwanda’s capital, Kigali is under serious consideration as host of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) competition.
According to Rwanda news outlet, The New Times, the city is likely to be picked as the host of the competition from the group stages down to the final game.
The maiden edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa tournament was scheduled to commence in March but the corona virus pandemic meant the competition had to be postponed.
BAL was one of the first major competitions to be suspended as a result of the virus and to complete the first ever edition, Rwanda has been picked as the sole site for all 12 teams to converge and play.
Multiple African cities including Dakar (Senegal) and Monastir (Tunisia) were picked out originally as host cities for games during the group stages.
To ensure the safety of teams in a “Bubble Like” situation, a city with few corona related infections and deaths is on the cards to be picked. At the time of writing, Rwanda has recorded 4,020 corona virus infections with 16 deaths.
