Basketballghana.com can confirm the list of basketball beneficiaries for the COVID 19 Financial Package and female basketball players have been included in the list.
Ghana’s poppular hoops portal can report 16 names were submitted to the vetting committee as prospective beneficiaries of the fund.
The list has male and female athletes meaning should the enlisted athletes meet the criteria of the committee, they would benefit from the fund.
The fund was set up to ease the financial hit on athletes in the West African country due to the outbreak of the corona virus that has infected over 20,000 people in the country.
Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) and Youth Employment Agency (YEA) put the fund together and 1000 athletes will divvy up the three million Ghana cedis package.
Successfully vetted athletes will earn 500 Ghana Cedis a month for six months; athletes have been selected from as many as 33 sports disciplines.
Due to the outbreak, a ban on contact sports has been in force in Ghana since June; several basketball competitions are still on hold or yet to commence.
