No official word was delivered by Ghana President Nan Akufo-Addo in his latest nation address on the COVID 19 pandemic this past weekend on the ban on contact sports in Ghana.
The ban was widely expected to be lifted on July 31 due to the low number of active COVID 19 cases in the West African country. At the time of writing Ghana had 3,309 active cases.
However, no word was said about the issue which means the ban is still effective beyond July and further deepens the woes of stakeholders involved in contact sports in Ghana especially basketball.
The basketball fraternity in the country has had to deal with a boatload of cancelled events and postponing league seasons due to the virus.
The 2020 Tema Basketball League is yet to commence while the Accra and GSP Basketball Leagues are yet to continue while the Western Basketball Association League is only a couple of games away from completion.
The 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship had completed just two Zonal competitions prior to suspension due to the virus.
