Tema Basketball League Organizing Secretary Prince Owusu Anning has stated the league will commence once the ban on contact sports in Ghana is lifted.
Ghana is observing a ban on all contact sports and a decision to extend the ban or otherwise is to be announced on July 31 by the nation’s President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The ban was implemented to curtail the spread of the corona virus that has infected over 20,000 Ghanaians since it was first detected in March this year.
The 2020 Tema League season was set to commence in late March or early April but a partial lockdown and subsequent ban on contact sports including basketball prevented that from happening.
Speaking to Hood2Hood, Owusu responded to a question regarding the league’s commencement where he said:
“Commencement of the league largely depends on the President’s decision to lift the ban on contact sports particularly basketball”.
The League has operated for four years and has a growing roster with an equally widening fan base; games are played at the Tema Community 4 Court.
