In the aftermath of Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) valiant efforts in brokering a deal for financial relief from Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA), the Association got rewarded handsomely.

400 of the Association’s athletes benefitted from the 500 Ghana Cedis per individual every month for the next six months. 100 parathletes will benefit from the package arranged to help athletes financially during the COVID 19 pandemic has brought almost all sports competitions to a halt.

The MoU was signed on Thursday, July 9 at the YEA Headquarters in Accra.

This leaves several federations and associations to divvy the remaining portion of the package to 500 other athletes. Three million Ghana Cedis was agreed to be distributed to 1000 athletes in all as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the YEA and National Sports Authority.

As such, the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) has to select athletes as beneficiaries of this package in the coming days. However, the list of beneficiaries is likely to be short.

Basketball has been affected by the COVID outbreak that has infected over 20,000 people in Ghana at the time of writing.
