Speaking about the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in an interview, NBA Hall of Fame inductee Hakeem Olajuwon has expressed pride in his African roots.
The two time NBA Champion made this known when talking about the prospects of basketball on the African continent in connection to the BAL.
The BAL is a continental competition setup by the NBA and basketball’s world governing body FIBA to expose talents on the continent and popularize the sport in Africa.
Scheduled to commence on March 11 in Dakar, Senegal, the BAL inaugural edition was called off due to the spread of the corona virus.
“When I think about the resiliency of African people, it reminds me that I am blessed to come from Africa. I have faith that we will find a get through this together” he said about the situation.
12 teams representing 12 countries have qualified to compete in the first ever BAL; the competition has been tagged to be the strongest irrespective of the sport in Africa by FIBA Executive Director Alphonse Bile.
