James Madison University Men’s Basketball Team Coach Mark Byington has detailed a major reason for recruiting Ghanaian youngster Joel Mensah.

20 year old Mensah transferred from San Diego State University after spending two years with the Aztecs but found playing time difficult to come by.

He was one of eight players who transferred to James Madison this offseason and await a ruling from the NCAA on their eligibility to compete immediately without sitting out for the 2020-2021 season.

“We wanted to grow old and the best evaluations we could get during a pandemic was looking at the guys who played against other Division I players” Byington said.

Due to the corona virus pandemic that has hit the United States of America very hard, student athletes are yet to return to campus to prepare for the season.

The 6 foot 10 inch Mensah is expected to bring size and athleticism to James Madison’s roster and expand his game in his third year in college.
