Basketballghana.com can confirm the first ever Giants of Africa Festival scheduled to be held in Kigali, Rwanda has been postponed to 2021.
The basketball empowerment and skills development program was planned to be held from August 16 to August 22 this year in Rwanda’s capital.
However, the spread of the corona virus has forced organizers to move the weeklong event to August next year to avoid risks that come with mass gatherings.
“Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, Giants of Africa, has decided to postpone the inaugural Giants of Africa Festival 2020, scheduled for August 16 – 22, 2020, in Kigali, Rwanda to 2021” was stated in the release.
The annual program led by Toronto Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri was in line to have 200 participants converge at a central location-kigali-for the first time in the history of GOA. In previous years, participants have attended camps in locations within respective countries.
Participants were supposed to be drawn from 11 countries on the continent including Senegal, Nigeria, South Sudan, Somalia, DR Congo among others.
