Shooting Guard for Nigerian Basketball outfit Rivers Hoopers Benjamin Ikechukwu is confident his team will perform well in the first ever Basketball Africa League (BAL) edition.

He said this in an interview with FIBA as the wait continues for the BAL to get underway; the continental competition was due to commence in March this year but was indefinitely suspended due to the corona virus outbreak.

The steep rise of the virus means a set date to commence the tournament has yet to be fixed but that has not dampened the level of confidence the 6 foot 6 inch player has in his team.

“We’re not scared of any team but respect them…We know their pedigrees as basketball powerhouses on the continent but we are also representing a country that is arguably one of the best basketball nations in Africa. So, we will be riding on that glory as we compete against other teams” he said.

The BAL is a product of the NBA and FIBA Africa and has 12 teams from the continent due to compete with games in the latter stages due to be held in Rwanda’s Kigali Arena.
