Basketballghana.com can confirm National Sports Authority Deputy Director General Saka Acquaye has passed on after a lengthy battle with illness.

The sad news was confirmed earlier this week with the veteran administrator leaving behind an extensive list of contributions to Ghana’s sports fraternity.

Aside playing key roles in disciplines- swimming and handball-he excelled in during his younger days, he positively impacted other disciplines including volleyball and hockey among others.

The Late Acquaye at the 2015 Ghana Basketball Awards

The long tenured former athlete held a position on University of Ghana’s Sports Advisory Board for years prior to his poor health and eventual passing.

Acquaye was present at the 2015 Ghana Basketball Awards further highlighting his love to grow sports disciplines that have been chronically underfunded in the West African country.

The event organized by Rite Sports Limited had several distinguished individuals and groups honoured for their achievements in the sport with Braves of Customs Shooting Guard Abdul Mutaleeb Alhassan winning the coveted prize on the night-Most Valuable Player Award.

Acquaye passed away at age 59.
