Basketballghana.com can confirm Ghanaian Power Forward Yussif Basa-Ama has been named Class 3A Boys Player of the Year Award in the State of Florida in the United States of America.

The 19 year old won the award after leading his St. Andrew’s High School Basketball Team to clinch the state title recently beating Velma Jackson 83-62 in the final.

After averaging 15.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, Basa-Ama won the award in the category for “Small Schools” in the state.

6 foot 9 inch Basa-Ama was instrumental for the team especially in the latter stages where he registered a combined 48 points and 17 rebounds in the semifinal and final games.

He has since committed to play college basketball for Yale University in the Ivy League after receiving eight scholarship offers.

Yussif received similar offers from Harvard University, University of South Florida, Florida Golf Coast University and Florida Atlantic University.

For winning his first state title, St. Andrew’s Coach John O’Connell was named Coach of the Year in the same category; St. Andrew’s ended Basa-Ama’s final year with 26 wins and five losses.
