Nigeria’s Senior National Men’s Basketball Team (D’Tigers) Captain Ike Diogu has eyes on what lies ahead after the 2021 African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) and is considering retirement.

He made this assertion known in an interview with Nigeria Basketball Federation Media recently where the former Golden State Warriors players opened up about his run with the National Team.

After failing to defend its title at the 2017 edition, winning the 2021 AfroBasket to be held in Rwanda, is of major importance to the team but the American born Diogu hinted it could be his last for Nigeria.

“I don’t have any time frame right now. Hopefully, I can play for another two years and see what happens. Let us see how the body is and how everything goes. I am closer to the end than the beginning…It has been an honour serving my country” he said.

Diogu helped Nigeria win the 2015 AfroBasket and qualify to the 2012 and 2016 Olympics in London and Rio de Janeiro respectively.

The team was set to compete in this year’s Olympics after sealing qualification but the competition has been moved to 2021. Diogu featured in Nigeria’s run at the 2019 World Cup.
