Basketball Africa League (BAL) President Amadou Gallo Fallo has spoken words of support for the Black Lives Matter movement in the fight against racism in the world.
By stating “the African-American story and the African story is one and same”, Fall’s words comes in the wake of mass protests against systemic racism in the US and other countries all over the world.
The protests were sparked when African-American George Floyd died after a white Police officer knelt on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
“You cannot divorce the African story from the African-American story. I am still outraged from the senseless murder of our brother George Floyd in broad daylight with an arrogance and callousness that can only be derived from a system that condones it…We stand with our African-American brothers and sisters as we seek justice and equality” he said in a statement.
The BAL is project between FIBA Africa and the NBA and was scheduled to commence in March but the spread of the corona virus forced authorities to indefinitely suspend it.
