Ghana Forward Joel Mensah has left San Diego State University Men’s Basketball Team Basketballghana.com can confirm.
San Diego-nicknamed the Aztecs-confirmed the news as the team goes through a bevy of transitions in recent days following the arrival of Joshua Tomaic and Cade Alger.
Both players transferred from Maryland University and Seattle University respectively with Nolan Norrain and Yanni Wetzell leaving the program.
Mensah’s reasons behind the transfer is tied to lack of playing time at San Diego State despite leaving high school as a four star recruit from JSerra Catholic High.
In two seasons at San Diego, Mensah averaged just 1.6 points, one rebound and six minutes per game across 36 appearances for last season’s Mountain West Conference Champions.
Mensah manned the frontcourt with fellow Ghanaian Nathan Mensah; the latter missed most of the past season due to a lung-heart related issue.
Joel moved to the United States at age 15 from Ghana with the 20 year old being part of the San Diego team that lost just two games but won 30 matches last season prior to the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament due to the corona virus.
