Panathinaikos Basketball Club has been named winners of the 2019-2020 season Greece Basketball League title Basketballghana.com can confirm.
The giant club was awarded the title after the league’s general assembly voted “unanimously” for Panathinaikos according to Eurohoops.net earlier on Thursday, May 21.
The decision comes on the back of the league’s cancellation due to the corona virus pandemic that has infected over five million people in the world.
This prompted league officials to suspend the league and subsequently cancel it with reports earlier this month suggesting a winner won’t be declared for the season.
However, the Assembly voted for Panathinaikos to win the title for the second season in a row thanks to the team’s record of 18 wins and two losses in 20 regular season games prior to the cancellation.
This is Bentil’s first major trophy win since turning pro in 2016 after a standout career at Providence College. He was drafted into the NBA 51st overall by Boston Celtics in the same year becoming the first Ghana born player to do so.
The Sekondi native plays Power Forward and Small Forward positions.
