Ex University of Education-Winneba (UEW) Men’s Basketball Captain Jeffrey Djimate has recalled his last time working with former UEW Coach Nashiru Yakubu who passed away recently.
He made this recollection during an interview with Basketballghana.com following the sudden demise of the experienced Trainer on May 13.
Djimate, who expressed his utmost sadness about Yakubu’s passing, worked with several times as the pair represented the Winneba Campus of the renowned institution.
“The last time I worked was 2018 my last (participation at the Ghana University Sports Association) GUSA Games at Tamale…we had serious conversations on how to lead the team both on and off the court” Djimate recounted.
Yakubu was part of UEW’s contingent that competed in the 2020 GUSA Games; the Men’s Basketball Team walked away from the competition with a bronze medal.
Djimate has since gone on to play the role of an Assistant Coach at Accra Technical University and continues to play a starring role for Braves of Customs in the Accra Basketball League. He recently won the 2019 Men’s Division I League title with Braves.
