Former University of Education-Winneba (UEW) Point Guard Jeffrey Djimatey has expressed profound sadness following the demise of Basketball Coach Nashiru Yakubu.
The ex UEW Trainer passed away on Thursday, May 14 sending shock waves through the basketball fraternity and had several individuals empathize with the family’s loss.
One of such individuals was Djimatey who played under Yakubu during his time in Winneba and the standout player had nothing but praise for his former Coach.
“It’s a sad day for me…I met Nash (Nashiru) in 2014. I had come to Accra from Takoradi and I had the chance to work with him. Even before I got to know he played basketball and was a national team player back then, he already knew me and had heard of me so it was kinda easy to flow with him…he taught me a lot” Djimatey said.
Yakubu was part of the UEW contingent that won bronze in basketball at the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Championship and 2020 GUSA Games respectively.
