Reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate University of Education-Winneba (UEW) Nashiru Yakubu has passed away with the sad event taking place earlier today.
Yakubu was a long tenured Coach for UEW and also served as Coach at the national level with him serving as an Assistant Coach for Ghana’s Under 18 National Team in 2004.
In the wake of the shocking news, members of Ghana’s basketball fraternity have shared their messages of support and commiseration.
Veteran Forward Richard Borsah who has been appointed Regional Director at the International Basketball University, stated “this man was the reason I could get back on my feet again to play basketball. May his gentle soul rest in peace”.
Head Coach of the Under 18 side in 2004 Emmanuel Essel Worbil said, “Ohh my Assistant…May his soul rest in peace”. Worbil coaches University of Ghana (UG).
Fellow long tenured Coach Emmanuel “Rubberman” Quaye added “May his soul RIP. What a sad story”. Yakubu led UEW to third place at the 2020 GUSA Games.
