Rite Sports Chief Executive Officer Yaw Sakyi Afari has hit hard at detractors who are of the view the celebrated media personality cum entrepreneur has no business in basketball because he doesn’t play the sport.
Afari had a strong reaction to this assertion by tagging such people as “myopic”; he made this statement in a Question and Answer session held recently Basketballghana.com was privy to.
The experienced administrator touched on several issues about his private life, leading celebrated sports firm Rite Sports and other matters linked to basketball and other sports disciplines.
As a big basketball personality with little to no history playing the sport, Afari’s huge connection to basketball in Ghana has had some folks question his “legitimacy” among personalities connected to basketball.
“That is quite regrettable…it’s something that I have also heard and I am sorry to say but it is only myopic people, short sighted people who would think like that. You don’t have to play basketball to be in the basketball space. Somebody must organize…so if you think along those lines and if you’re a group seeking to grow a basketball industry that should never be part of the conversation” he said and referenced the NBA’s multi faceted industry to drive his point home further.
Rite Sports Limited is the firm behind Ghana’s biggest basketball competitions including the Sprite Ball Championship.
