Defending Zone 2 Champions of the 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has stunned University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the ongoing competition.
TTU beat home side UCC 33-31 to clinch an important win over its arch rival to put itself in the hunt for a place in the national competition.
The close contest had Benjamin Debrah give UCC a 9-6 lead in the first quarter with a late three point shot to put UCC ahead heading to the second quarter.
The teams traded baskets and ended the first half with the score tied on 14 before a decisive third quarter put Takoradi Technical in the lead via a 25-23 result.
After excellent play on defense by Alexis Abubakari and Mustapha Ahmed, Desmond Amponsah hit a big three point shot to cap a 6-0 run for TTU.
UCC responded with a four point run from Dennis Dugbennu including a layup off a spin that drew loud applause from fans gathered inside UCC’s Gymnasium.
