Basketballghana.com can confirm this year’s NCAA Tournament popularly known as March Madness will not take place due to the competition’s suspension.

The suspension is a precautionary measure against the Corona Virus that has forced competitions in other sports to be stopped. The NBA earlier in the week suspended the 2019-2020 season.

The NCAA Tournament was due to commence on March 17 and March 18 in Dayton with only essential workers and close families of players allowed in the arena. However, the NCAA board decided early on Thursday to go a step further and suspend the competition.

The news comes at a time where three Ghanaians were in line to compete in the tournament; Nathan Mensah and Joel Mensah of San Diego State University and Akwasi Yeboah of Rutgers University won’t compete as a result.

Despite dealing with blood clots in his lungs for much of the season, Nathan was due to make his return for the Tournament; San Diego is ranked second overall in the West and was scheduled to play University of California-Irvine.

Rutgers (ranked) eighth in the South was set to play ninth seed St. Mary’s University.
