Reports reaching Basketballghana.com indicate University of Cape Coast (UCC) will compete in the 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.
This would be the team’s first appearance in the competition since 2017 after missing out on the 2018 and 2019 editions respectively.
UCC has been placed in Zone 2 of this year’s competition alongside Takoradi Technical University, University of Education-Winneba and University of Mines and Technology.
Competition for the Zonal title takes place at UCC on Saturday, March 14; winning the zonal title ensures progression to the national stage.
UCC has been part of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball tournament since the maiden edition in 2011 and its best performance was in 2015 where the team ranked third behind Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and winners Accra Technical University.
However, UCC missed out on qualifying from the zone in 2016 after losing to Takoradi Technical in the deciding game. The team atoned for that miss by qualifying the following year.
Takoradi Technical is the defending champion and is heavily tipped to top the zone after winning Silver in last year’s national contest.
