Ghana Basketball Association President David Addo Ashong has called on the media to help develop basketball in the country through visibility.
He made the call earlier today at the 2020 UPAC Press Conference at the De’lish Restaurant in Accra where the seventh edition of the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship was launched.
Several media houses were present to cover the event that is widely regarded as the biggest tertiary basketball tournament in the West African nation.
“Am excited by the growing interest. I hope you continue to support the growth of the sport. Your presence here is important because basketball is popular but not visible ” he said at the event.
Representatives from some competing institutions and sponsors (CAL Bank, MTN and Decathlon) were present at the Conference and took turns to share their delight in the upcoming tournament.
32 institutions are competing in the 2020 UPAC and have been grouped in eight zones and the zonal winners qualify to the national championship.
This year’s competition commences on Saturday, March 7 at the Pope John Senior High School in Zone One. All Nations University College, Radford University College, Koforidua Technical University and Wisconsin International University College are competing this weekend.
