Basketballghana.com can confirm the start date of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) has been postponed due to health concerns related to the Corona Virus.

The maiden season of the BAL was scheduled to commence on Friday, March 13 in Dakar, Senegal involving teams in the Savannah Conference. Teams in the Nile Conference were scheduled to commence on March 20 in Monastir, Tunisia.

The first case of infection in Senegal was first reported earlier this week; Senegal is the fourth African country to report of an infection.

Reacting to the health risk, BAL organizers-FIBA Africa and the NBA- decided to postpone the start of the competition to a yet to be determined date.

“Following the recommendation of the Senegalese government regarding the escalating health concerns related to the coronavirus, the BAL’s inaugural season will be postponed. I am disappointed we are not able to tip off this historic league as scheduled but look forward to the highly-anticipated launch of the BAL at a later date” BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall said in a statement.
