Prospective Ghanaian NBA Center/Forward Nathan Mensah could play again this season after sitting out most parts of San Diego State University’s campaign in the US Men’s College Regular Season Basketballghana.com can confirm.
Mensah has not played for the Aztecs as he continues to recover from a blood clot in his lung but with just a game against Nevada left to play, Mensah could be available to play in the NCAA Tournament (postseason) later in March.
San Diego is scheduled to compete in the Mountain West Tournament which starts on March 5 prior to the NCAA Tournament set to commence on March 20 with the Aztecs as one of the top ranked teams thanks to recording 26 wins in 27 games played this season.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Mensah had an “outside chance” to play again this season earlier in January San Diego Coach Brian Dutcher’s statement suggests the second year player is close to a return.
“I’m still hoping to have him for the NCAA Tournament I really am. I’m hoping to have him, but he’s got some (medical) hurdles to clear to get there. We’re still a long way from that. There’s a lot that has to be done to make sure he’s healthy. But hopefully we’ll have him back by then” Dutcher said.
Mensah averaged 6.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 20 minutes before the illness.
