Team UG won the 2019 UPAC edition

Accra Technical University (ATU) and University of Ghana (UG) have been consistent contenders for the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship since the competition’s inception in 2011.

The seventh edition of the biggest tertiary basketball competition in Ghana is due to commence on March 7 with 32 institutions set to compete.

However, ATU and UG have dominated the competition with no other institution winning the prestigious tournament ever.

ATU won in 2011 and 2015 while UG has won the tournament in four straight years including the 2019 edition that had Ghana’s premier university beat Takoradi Technical University 37-32 in the final.

UG and ATU have made the most finals appearance record in the UPAC and in the history of the tournament, no final has been played minus either team. ATU lost to UG in the 2016 and 2018 finals.

Representatives from the three sects at Ghana’s tertiary education level-Public University, Private University, Polytechnic/Technical University-compete in the UPAC and the tournament is organized by Award winning sports firm Rite Sports Limited.
