Defending Tema Community Basketball League Champions Nungua Coldstore have taken a big step towards retaining its title.
The team bagged a 70-67 win over Spintex Knights in a closely contested matchup played at the Tema Community 4 Court on Sunday, February 16.
Coldstore looks to be the first team in the history of the league to win back to back titles and go into Game 2 this weekend at the same weekend with momentum. The series is a best of three games.
Nungua took an 18-12 first quarter lead off a solid but not spectacular start to the game though Captain Kwame Boamah Djan delivered an eye catching two handed dunk to end proceedings.
However, Nungua looked all but out of the contest as the team trailed 64-66 with little over a minute left to play in the contest and without Forwards Djan and Dennis Dugbennu due to foul trouble.
The team dug deep and got late points from Kwaku Arhin Twene and Joel Tham to take the game; Spintex aided the late turn around with poor shot selections and a turnover.
