University of Ghana (UG) will tonight host several teams in honour of former student and player Gerald Sappor who has been diagnosed with Leukemia.

The event starts at 15:00 GMT and aims to raise awareness about the illness and raise funds to aid Sappor’s treatment with his present team Nungua Coldstore heavily involved in the entire process.

Sappor graduated from UG in 2019 and won two Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) titles and has been with Coldstore in the Tema Community Basketball League since 2016.

Coldstore have won two league titles and battles Spintex Knights in Game One of the 2019-2020 Finals on February 16 at the Tema Community 4 Court.

A host of teams including UG’s Men’s Basketball side and Coldstore are scheduled to participate in the competition. All Star Teams from Accra Men’s Basketball League Division I and Tema League respectively will participate in tonight’s event.

In the lead up to the friendly competition, several members in Ghana’s Basketball fraternity and major personalities have showed support for Sappor.

Politician John Dumelo and Award winning Rapper Kwesi Arthur spoke words of support and encouragement in the lead up to the competition. Dumelo is a Guest Speaker.
