For the third time, Nungua Coldstore will compete in the finals series of the Tema Community Basketball League after securing a spot in the 2019 season last night.
The defending champions put a resilient Tema Rockets team to bed in Game 3 of the semifinal series thanks to a 56-38 win. The win was Coldstore’s second in a row after suffering a 42-46 loss in Game One.
Nungua scored a big 71-43 win over Rockets in Game 2 thanks to a lights out shooting performance from Coldstore’s Shooting Guard Jonathan Walker in the third quarter.
Forward Kwaku Arhin Twene’s variety of jumpers and layups off cuts to the basket added to the woes of Rockets who lacked enough depth at the wing positions.
The scoring outburst overturned a Coldstore 20-21 first half deficit to a 39-28 lead in the third quarter; members of Coldstore’s second unit-Abibu Aminu, Kofi Elias, Lawal Toyin hit three pointers to stretch the lead.
Walker and Emmanuel Wolff were responsible for a 38-16 second quarter lead for Nungua in Game 3.
