Tema Community 4’s run in the 2019 Tema Community Basketball League has come to a disappointing and frustrating end after suffering a 40-53 loss to Spintex Knights.
The loss was the team’s second on the bounce to Knights in the semifinal series that took place this past weekend; C4 lost 37-48 in Game One.
Knights have progressed to its maiden League Finals and is set to play against the winner of the Nungua Coldstore-Tema Rockets series that is tied 1-1 after two games. Game 3 is on Sunday, February 2.
Josiah Karikari completed a three point play as C4 trailed 4-6 with 5:17 minutes remaining. Thomas Nii Moi scored one of two free throws to give C4 a 7-6 lead.
Samuel Abbey drained a jumper and Spintex Knights got points from the charity stripe from Kontor Appiah and Emmanuel Ocquaye to tie the game at 11 at the end of the first quarter.
C4 had a frustrating second quarter with several turnovers, bad passes and missed shots bar a Kent Fosu three point shot. Spintex on the other hand, Abbey and Appiah hit shots from deep to take a 28-18 lead.
Abdul Bashiru scored eight points and made a big block in the third quarter off the bench.
Teammate Fred Asante delivered a highlight moment on a strong drive to the basket. C4 continued to miss shots despite having easy looks at the rim.
Nii Moi fouled out with 8:05 left. Asante assisted Abbey’s dunk to give Spintex a 51-34 lead with 4:29 left. C4 got a pair of three pointers from Thomas Amedeku and one from Brian Kwami but that wasn’t enough to prevent the sweep.
