Defending Tema Community Basketball League Champions Nungua Coldstore stayed in play for a Finals appearance by beating Tema Rockets 71-43.
After suffering a 42-46 loss to Rockets in Game One, Coldstore played tough and parlayed its youthfulness to the 28 point win.
Game 3 is on Sunday, February 2 at the Tema Community 4 Court; Coldstore seeks to make a third league finals appearance.
Kwaku Arhin Twene scored six points and Awuletey Junior added
a shot to give Coldstore an 8-4 lead with 5:55 minutes left with Baba Ibrahim
bagging all points for Rockets. Rockets hit a trio of three pointers to
tie the game at 16 at the end of the first quarter with two coming from George
Opoku-Pare.
Aninagyei Osei put Rockets ahead 18-16 and added a three
point shot to stretch Rockets lead (21-16) with 6:55 left.
Joel Tham reduced the deficit to one (20-21) but Jibril Musah hit a long three pointer in response. Dennis Dugbennu and Joel Tham scored points from the free throw line as Rockets led 24-23 at half time.
Coldstore went on an 11 point run to take a 39-28 third quarter lead with Jonathan Walker and Twene running the show as Rockets crumbled due to multiple disagreements with game officials over calls made in the contest.
Coldstore went on a 12-3 run to stretch its lead with Kofi Elias, Abibu Aminu and Lawal Toyin scoring three point shots respectively.
