University of Ghana (UG) has won gold in basketball in the Men’s and Women’s Division at the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.
The two teams did so by clinching wins over UCC in deciding matchups at the biannual multisport competition held at UG. The games commenced on January 3 and the closing ceremony ends today.
In the Men’s Division, UG beat UCC 66-63 in a very controversial match that had to be continued a day later due to crowd trouble that prevented the first from coming to a close.
UCC led 51-47 with 7:35 minutes left to play in the final quarter but sachets of water (3) were launched on to the court including one directly at the UCC bench that forced officials to call the game off.
In the Women’s Division, UG beat UCC 56-30 in a straight forward victory for the Amazonia Warriors to dethrone then defending champions UCC.
The win for UG is the third gold medal in a row for UG in the Men’s Division.
