The much anticipated clash between old rivals University of Cape Coast (UCC) and University of Ghana (UG) has been abandoned due to crowd trouble.

The game was to decide the gold medal winner of the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Men’s Division Basketball; UG is hosting the competition that commenced on January 3 and ends on January 19.

UCC held a 51-47 lead in the final quarter of the close game with 7:35 minutes left to play in the game but the contest came to an abrupt end.

UCC angrily expressed their displeasure over a foul called against them and threatened to walk off the court at the same time a sachet of water was launched at the team’s bench.

Two sachets of water were launched on to the court prior to the aforementioned incident in tense moments at the UG Main Court.

The game was halted and the teams were ushered off the court as the situation in the immediate confines of the court grew hostile. The game was paused for about 45 minutes before game officials left the venue and the game was called off.

After brief skirmishes, several members of the Ghana Police Service made their way to the court and ensured order was restored before both teams were ushered off the court.
