UCC (red) v UG in 2020 GUSA matchup.

The 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games gold medal game between University of Cape Coast (UCC) and University of Ghana (UG) has come to an inconclusive end.

The matchup was abandoned in the final quarter due to crowd disturbance that threatened to get violent at the UG Main Court.

The stakes were high in this tough contest as UCC sought to end UG’s winning streak since 2016 that has culminated in gold medal wins in 2016 and 2018 editions of the Games.

UCC recovered from a 2-8 deficit early on in the game after a pair of converted three point shots from UG to end the first quarter leading 19-12.

UG went on a five point run with Guard Aminu Abibu draining a three point shot before Benjamin Debrah and Frankie Williams exchanged shots from three point range.

Debrah scored all three shots from the free throw line after getting fouled on a three point shot attempt to give UCC a 35-27 lead despite Treasure Botchwey’s buzzer beating three point shot.

UCC’s 50-40 third quarter lead dropped to four (51-47) with 7:35 minutes left to play in the game before crowd trouble forced the game to be postponed.

The new time and date for the continuation of the game is yet to be determined.
