Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has picked up its debut win in Men’s Basketball at the biannual Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games.

GIMPA beat fellow debutant Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) 71-35 earlier today at the University of Ghana (UG) for its first win in the ongoing 2020 GUSA Games.

The game featured two institutions that had lost all six previous games in the competition but and both teams showed a lot of commitment by slugging it out in a surprisingly physical contest that had GIMPA lead 31-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Host UG on the other hand, extended its winning streak by beating close rival University of Education-Winneba (UEW) 61-45 in a tough contest.

The game featured the only teams without a loss in the competition after seven games but two time defending champions UG came up tops in an exciting contest.

UG struggled with its shots from three point range in the first half as UEW led 25-21 but a big third quarter performance from Guards Treasure Botchwey and William Frankie put UG up 42-30 at the end of the third quarter.

The win gives UG a clear path to winning gold for the third straight time.
