Exactly a week ago, the 2020 Sprite Ball Championship came to a surprising end as the Boys Division and Girls Division were won by schools not considered title favourites.
Keta Business College (KETABUSCO) and Shama Senior High School won titles in the respective aforementioned divisions for the first time in the history of Ghana’s biggest High School Basketball Tournament.
Shama beat St. Louis Senior High School 15-14 in the final after surviving a missed free throw which would have sent the game into overtime.
Both schools were competing in the final for the first time and the matchup was the fourth between the schools since 2019. Shama and St. Louis played twice in last year’s Championship and two more times this year.
KETABUSCO prevented Mfantsipim School from extending its dominance in the Championship by clinching a 48-40 win; Mfantsipim has won the competition five times.
Mfantsipim lost 24-32 to KETABUSCO at the preliminary stage and repeated the win in the final. St. Louis, West Africa Senior High School and Adisadel College were involved in some of the best games at the competition.
