Winners of the 2019 Sprite Ball Championship, Mfantsipim School and Kumasi Girls Senior High School, missed out on defending their respective titles in the 2020 edition.
Mfantsipim School lost 40-48 to Keta Business College (KETABUSCO) in the Boys Division Final and missed the chance to win its sixth overall Sprite Ball title.
KwaBotwe lost twice to KETABUSCO in the competition; Mfantsipim lost 24-32 in the first game of this year’s tournament. The turn of events mirror those of 2018 where Mfantsipim lost twice to PRESEC Osu with the second loss coming in the final.
In the Girls Division, Kumasi Girls attempted to win the division for a record third straight year but that dream didn’t materialize as the school ended in third place.
Kumasi Girls lost 17-23 to eventual winners Shama Senior High School in the semifinals but recovered to beat Presbyterian Senior High School (Osu-PRESEC) 14-6 to clinch bronze.
Kumasi Girls won the 2018 and 2019 editions of Sprite Ball. West Africa Senior High School placed third in the Boys Division.
