Mozambique based side Ferroviario de Maputo clinched the final spot in the main draw of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) this past weekend at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
Maputo beat City Oilers from Uganda 74-57 to qualify from Group H to the main stage of the NBA-FIBA Africa backed continental championship.
Ferroviario is one of 12 teams to compete for the title with the opening round of games set for March 2020. US Monastir from Tunisia, Rivers Hoopers from Nigeria and AS Sale from Morocco are among the teams that will compete against Maputo next year.
Qualification ensured Maputo ended the year on a brilliant note on the heels of its Female Team clinching the FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup a week prior.
Maputo beat Inter Clube from Angola 91-90 in overtime to clinch its second straight title in the division; the competition was held at the Cairo Indoor Stadium in Egypt.
Ferroviario Forward Ingvild Mucauro was named Most Valuable Player at the Tournament.
