St. John's (yellow) v Fijai

Shama Senior High School (SHASS) and St. John’s School have emerged as winners of the Western Region qualifiers for the Sprite Ball Championship.

The qualifiers were played at the St. John’s School Court in Sekondi before a large group of students from the participating schools, invited dignitaries and past students.

SHASS beat Fijai Senior High School 17-3 to win the Girl’s Division and secure qualification to the 2020 Sprite Ball Championship.

In the Boys Division, host St. John’s beat Sekondi College 9-4 with the low scoring game squarely attributable to poor visibility at the venue that forced officials to reduce the game’s minutes.

In spite of the shorter than expected final, St. John’s Guard Jeffrey Bonah shone through with deft handling of the ball and good passes.

SEKCO committed multiple turnovers off rushing offensive plays and had a poor shooting display in a game that ended its regional title ambitions.

All three schools represented the region at the 2019 Sprite Ball and all three schools will head back to Accra for the tournament’s 14th edition.

Next year’s Sprite Ball runs from January 3 to January 4 at the El Wak Stadium.
